Welcome to
Arctic Blond Living
Though we all took different paths to get to right here, right now, we ended up here, together. How cool is that! So, hey, hi you! 👋 ☺️
What was your path? Write down the pieces of your path as you remember them, you will use them later. Here's mine.
About the Author
I shouldn't even be alive today. I had lost the DNA lottery, living in a childhood of extreme abuse.
To survive, it took overcoming a childhood of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, homelessness, addictions, alcoholism, getting me too'd and cancelled, suicidal ideations, a host of self-destructive behaviors, and fighting lifelong mental illness.
Looking back, the changes began only when I started getting truer to myself.
Okay Funnyman
By exploiting an innate childhood survival skill, (making them laugh reduced the intensity of the beatings by 20 - 80%) I became a relatively funny professional comedian, traveling around the country making people laugh for 6 years.
That inadvertently led to my sobriety on December 5th, 1990.
A New Beginning
It took getting sober to begin the hard work of healing my damaged heart and soul. A slowly clearing head allowed me to finally fully connect with myself and learn how I, or anyone(!), can turn our most painful shit into our strongest assets.
I began to actually finish things I started. I began using the right tool for the job. I began seeing successes. First as an award winning PBS producer, and then building a successful international executive search firm.
With the ever increasing clarity came ever increasing levels of emotional and financial security. This foundation allowed me to give back some of what I was given.
I came to believe that God puts us through the shit we go through, in order to be there for the people going through the shit we went through.
When You Are Called - Come
Feeling called, blessed, and wanting to give back, I was able to fund and create several local programs to help those still on the streets. To help those who were where I was.
With my irreverent trademark humor, I started sharing my story and lessons with them, "Listen, I'm just a goofball, so if I can make it off the streets, you sure as hell can too."
Then, by sharing my story with groups of three to 3000, over two decades my "goofball-ed-ness" helped rally thousands of others who simply cared as much as I did.
All of us together, along with help from singer John Mellencamp who linked with us in 2008, built several local, then regional programs leading people off the streets and into domestic autonomy.
We Have Lift Off
Then, in 2012, I created a little homeless veterans program called Veterans Matter, to house 35 local veterans. At the urging of several celebrities, it grew.
It was the late Dusty Hill of ZZ Top who first asked me to expand it to "help my guys in Houston." So I created an online system that allowed me to help veterans in any funded area.
After Mr. Mellenamp and Mitch Albom helped with funds to house the veterans in their home states, several other celebrities, (Like Katy Perry, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryant, and Kid Rock to name-drop a few,) corporations, organizations, and people who care, joined us.
By 2015, the program consumed most of my waking hours, to the neglect of my business. I made the hard decision to go where I was called and close my practice to work full time to house America's heroes.
Together, we built it into a national program, helping over 10,000 veterans get off the streets into their own homes for the brave, all across this land of the free.
After getting cancelled in 2021, I moved to working behind the scenes with the celebrites, donors, and groups, helping to secure a national partnership with Human Gathering, and engineered the successful merger of the Veterans Matter program into the Tunnel to Towers Homeless Veterans program, where it will live on forever.
My Hair's Not Gray,
It's Arctic Blond!
Officially retiring in January, 2024. I encountered the shock of the huge void retirement creates.
Seeking to fill it, I decided to intentionally fill it with daily joy, and manage it so I could leave on my expiration date with no regrets.
First, I had to figure out what exactly brings me joy.
The answers are writing, creating laughter, bringing people together, and doing good.
As a result of that process, I created this Arctic Blond Living Empowered (ABLE) platform to help others as it did me.
Why? Because I want to.
It checks all of my ABLE boxes of joy. Helping others is SELF-ish to me. I'm doing it for MY Self, hoping it helps YOUR Self too.
So Welcome to Arctic Blond Living, Empowered!
Let's Go!
My friend Jean told me I needed to put a picture of my wife and I on here, so here you go.
